Around the world, the integration of renewable energy into existing power grids is growing rapidly. The ideal alternative for future power networks is the widespread use of renewable energy generation due to the negative consequences of fossil-fuel based generation. In order to acquaint students with these prospects and give them up-to-date information on the renewable energy research sector, a seminar was arranged by the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, ULAB. The title of the session was "A Hydrogen-focused Microgrid for Regional and Remote Community". It was conducted by Dr. G. M. Shafiullah , who is affiliated with Discipline of Engineering and Energy, Murdoch University, Perth, Australia as A/Professor. He is the author of more than 100 referred published book chapters, journal papers, and conference papers including IEEE Transactions, Elsevier and AIP Journals. His research interests include power systems, smart grid, renewable energy and its enabling technologies, networking and data communication, and computer-aided technology.

The speaker at the seminar provided an interesting presentation on hydrogen-based storage systems that could be effective storage systems for microgrids. He also provided a highly informative speech on the numerous opportunities for continued research into renewable energy. The program was held on the ULAB permanent campus. With tremendous enthusiasm, many students attended the session. Along with other faculty members, the heads of the EEE and CSE departments attended the seminar as well.
